I guess it is my background as a software developer, but I am quite shocked that people are putting in hard work creating valuable articles, and not backing them up!
I write my articles on my own machine that gets backed up to a second local disk, and offsite storage. Google drive Dropbox etc will do. There are plenty of cheap and easy options for doing the backups automatically in the background.
I also check my work into github, which is an extra backup and also helps if you suddenly realise you deleted half your document by accident.
It isn't difficult, and anything you do is better than nothing. Losing months or years of work would be a complete disaster.
