I think the issue here is more about being expected to know relatively obscure facts off the top of your head, when in real life you would just spend 2 minute googling it.

Provided you can quickly understand what you googled and choose the most suitable algorithm for you specific application there isn't really any problem with having to look it up.

In fact, if it is an algorithm you dimly remember from your CS degree 10 or more years ago, it is probably better to look it up in case there is a more efficient implementation you aren't aware of.
