I've been using Windows as a developer pretty much since it came out, and MS DOS before that.

I started using Linux for side projects about 5 years ago, but now I have retired I rarely use Windows at all. I find Linux better for development (unless you are purely developing for Windows). I have also found workflows that work well for writing. I use a markdown based workflow for web stuff and LaTeX for anything that requires more control over the layout. They are both text-based so they play nice with git.

I'm not a gamer, but Linux does more or less everything else pretty well.
