I've written a few ebooks, and I agree you need to put in continuous effort to sell them, so it isn't truly passive.

But generating sales is all you have to do. There is no stock to buy, no physical goods to ship, no returns to worry about.

Compared to bulk buying stuff from China and flogging it in ebay, it is relatively passive.
